Notes & Recommendations
Always measure and calculate the average portion weight of the specific nut(s) you plan to use. This is the only reliable way to determine your final price per portion.
All products used in this test were roasted. If you plan to use raw or fried (oil-roasted) nuts, be aware that they may yield different portion weights due to differences in moisture, oil content, or density. Fried products, in particular, can sometimes be more slippery or oily, which may affect flow and consistency. We recommend testing before use.
Avoid using very large nuts, such as walnuts, Brazil nuts or pecans. Due to their irregular size and shape, they tend to block the products from entering the dispense unit, resulting in inconsistent portion size.
Avoid using sticky or sugary ingredients, such as dried dates, figs, or dried apricots. These can stick to the internal parts of the machine or to each other, causing jams and irregular portioning.
Mixes produce the most consistent and reliable results, especially when they contain both large and smaller-sized nuts. Smaller components like peanuts, sesame seeds, shelled pistachios, or pumpkin seeds help fill air gaps between larger nuts like almonds and hazelnuts. This improves flow and leads to more uniform and heavier portions.
Some nuts may have variable oil content, surface texture, or shape, all of which can affect how they flow through the machine. We recommend running a few test vends before finalizing any product.
We will continue to expand this report with additional data as we test more nut varieties and seed mixes. Stay tuned for updates if you're considering other ingredients like shelled pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame, or even dried fruits.
